October 20th 2008,
I actively eat 2 meals a day and question why when I go back to restaurants I don't remember what I ordered, what was good, what I wouldn't order again, etc. So to help me conquer my problem, I will be documenting what i eat, where I eat, how good or bad, would I go back.
This blog will not be limited to location, therefore, my meal at Sabor in Edgewater, NJ Saturday night will be critiqued. But before we get to Edgewater, NJ lets make a stop on the Upper West Side or Harlem to be exact and talk about Dinsaur BBQ.
Friday October 18th marks the day I was to be house watching in New Jersey. Shawn and I didn't really feel like going crazy so we decided to order D-BBQ and eat it at the house in Demarest, NJ. From the get-go, we knew we wanted pulled pork, buffalo wings, corn bread, and either brisket or chxn. Since we would be getting wings, we went with the brisket.
The wings were delicious. Got an order of 13... 6 mild, 6 medium (wango tangO) Wango Tango is the wango to tango. Really good, BIG wings, saucy and wet, well worth it.
Then we got a combo of Ribs, Brisket and Pulled Pork. The PULLED PORK was by far the best of the 3. It was moist and juicy, not loaded with sauce. Best bet. Brisket was a bad cut... it had fat in the middle of the meat, not that juicy. I remember the last time I was there, the brisket was really good. Pretty disappointing. Finally, the ribs were fairly large, good not great. would eat them again but nothing special.
Corn bread is good. worth it to order an extra piece or two.
By the way, it was 1 hour and 45 minute wait for 2 @ 7:00 PM on a Friday. A famous quote from The Lion King "Be Prepared."
Overall B-
Saturday night was a whole nother story. Sabor in Edgewater/North Bergen, NJ is a trendy spanish/Peruvian restuarant that caters to all sorts. Great decor, nice ambiance, accommodating, good service.
Tapas:
Avocado with plantain chips... great starter. its BIG. tough to share with 2 people un less they make a small.
Salad - looked good but I never tried it.
Shrimp in a red sauce with potatoes - really good. about 6 shrimp. nice flavor.
Beef stuffed plantain - not my favorite but worth it. had a sweet after flavor.
Pulled Pork - BOMB!!! with plantain slices and black beans. SO F-IN good.
Entrees:
White Fish - AMAZING - flaky white fish, blackened/seasoned w a nice place of veges/salad
Paella - filled with goodness. great value.
Skirt Steak - seasoned extremely well. came with fries and veges. nice green sauce on top of the steak. really good.
There was no room for dessert. The Sangria was ridiculous. Had all these fresh fruits: Pears, Oranges, Lemon, Apple and maybe some peaches... not guaranteed.
A-/B+ Don't want to give A ratings away so easily but this one could be an A-.
Definitely would go back!
